Consciousness or Selfishness. Your Choice.

Waking Times
Selfishness concerns itself with one’s own welfare regardless of others and with giving less than the best to others. It may take the form of self-aggrandisement, self-glory, self-centerdness, self-doubt and many other “self” words, including self-control. Selfishness includes smugness, complacency, egotism, narcissism, conceit, perfectionism, arrogance, manipulation, denial, avoidance, fears, false pride, pretension, hypocrisy, pomposity, mistrust, condescension, indifference, presumptuousness, expectations, martyrdom, addictions, ambitions, jealousy, possessiveness, weakness, greed and control of others. All selfishness is a type of so-called sin. All evil is a type of selfishness. All selfishness is sinful and evil.
Unselfishness, besides being the opposite of the above, means giving generously to others as well as oneself for all the right reasons. It is being good when no one is watching, caring longer than anybody, loving anyway. Unselfishness is doing what you know to do even when you don’t feel like it. It’s not giving in to the impulses of the moment. It’s not making excuses for your own or anybody else’s failure. It is taking responsibility for what you are responsible for, and absolutely nothing else. It’s letting everybody do their own growing in spite of caring that they hurt. It is not letting them hurt alone. It’s intimate honesty and honestly intimate.
It’s letting others know what you want from them, and it’s lovingly letting go if they can’t give it.
Everything, and we really mean absolutely everything, is vibration. All vibrations seek their own level. Like begets like. Those who love unselfishly will ultimately, between earthly lives, experience the heavenly vibration of that attitude, while those who are negative and selfish will ultimately and rightly so experience the hellish vibration brought on by that. It doesn’t matter whether you believe it or not.
What we are trying to tell you is that there is nothing you can’t do when you are fully conscious. There is nothing you don’t know. And there is no place you consciousness can’t be. This of course is very scary for highly intelligent people who like to control others. Unselfish love is that which a person, who knows that he, is one with the universal spirit, does. Unselfish love is the way of the flow of the universe, the way of oneness. Unselfishness is the way of being in harmony with the universe. And is an instrument for doing the will of the Universal Consciousness. Unselfish love is both the end result of breaking our illusion of separateness, and a way of attaining oneness.
In retrospect, in times of suffering people are more aware of the constant, painful gnawing that exists from lack of inner peace. It reminds them, at least internally or subconsciously, about the great fact that suffering is caused by remaining separate and selfish, and this will never end unless we return to oneness with the Universal Spirit. We can never really be happy as selfish separate selves, never. We may have temporary high points, but that is it.
On the other hand, the pain of crucifying our selfishness is just temporary. And when we are done doing that, we have inner peace, which is the only true happiness, and the only happiness that never leaves us. Only those who have learned that the greater pain lies in separation from the oneness will choose the spiritual path. Are you willing to surrender?
If a person has attained Universal Consciousness they, by the very nature of that, cannot be simultaneously selfish. And if a person is still selfish, they cannot be one with the Universal Spirit, nor have Universal Consciousness. Many people’s spirituality excludes this simple fact, and many use sophisticated spiritual rationalization to actually maintain their selfish selves. Travelling on the spiritual path is made easier by humility, compassion and unselfish love. The greater our degree of humility and compassion, the easier, and shorter, our path back will be. Spiritual growth can be experienced as agonizing torture that we must endure, or as an enlightening, learning experience that we desire and relish. It all depends on our attitude.
True spiritual growth moves us away from the world of separateness and selfishness, towards Universal Consciousness and At-one-ment. Such a shift in consciousness can only result in caring for all, because we realise that all beings are us, all are in the Universal Spirit. Unselfish love radiates to all without exception, so powerfully that it transcends your separate self and is the Creator’s love flowing through you to others. You become the vessel channelling the universal spirit (while also being the universal spirit). It gives to all who would receive. Unless you approach the Universal Consciousness within yourself very soon, you will be left behind.
The opportunities for incarnating will be greatly diminished in the very near future, if at all. There simply won’t be enough bodies to go around, to incarnate into. As was said…”My spirit shall not dwell in man forever”, so stop wasting your time and, more importantly, don’t let other people waste your time. If you don’t try to get rid of your selfishness, and regain your Universal Consciousness, you are wasting your time and life. (That is what you are supposed to be doing here in this world) Ascension is in consciousness, going from a lower to a higher vibration. There are no physical rapture, that is an error. Flesh is flesh, and Spirit is Spirit. You don’t go to heaven; you grow to heaven by being kind to other people.
If man really knew better, he would do better. So be kind to others and know that ignorance and selfishness are the real evils. We are our brother’s keeper. If those intelligent people who are in a position to give of their means, talents, wealth, education and positions do not take this truth into consideration, then there must be that levelling which is to come. To our intelligent and intellectual friends, know that every other individual has as much right on Earth as we ourselves have, even though in some respect they may not be as far advanced in their learning.
Most people have lost so much awareness that they are not even aware of the fact that they are not aware that they are part of the great oneness. At present, as well as in the very near future, you will see tyranny, oppression, control and enslavement on a scale that is unprecedented. A helping hand will be offered to a collapsing world, a crime-ridden world. This hand will welcome you and want to take care of you, but watch out, for if you grasp it, it will make you a servant for the dark side. Think not that evil does not exist. True evil disguises itself and points fingers at innocents. Evil people are arrogant, feel mentally and intellectually superior, are greedy, speak lies and love power over others. They are masters of deception and secrecy, and are totally selfish. Evil seeks, with all its might, to destroy all those who would shine light into this world of darkness. That is also why I am using a previous name in penning this short script. From a higher perspective, the greatest evil on earth and in the hearts and minds of individuals is contention, fault-finding, lovers of self, selfishness and lovers of praise, because these forces separate consciousness. You create your own reality by attracting what you think about. The greatest good in the world is love, patience, kindness, forgiveness and understanding, because these forces unite. Evil is man’s misuse of the gift of free will. The creator allows this because free will is the only way for any soul to reach its original reason for existence: to know itself, to be itself, yet choosing to be one with, and in harmony with the whole, with the creator and the creation. If free will is taken away, then the soul no longer has the potential to become an eternal loving companion and co-creator. This is why souls who misuse their free will are allowed and given more time and lives to discover their true purpose, even if they do much harm along the way. Man will eventually learn that the Creators creation is better than his own feeble attempts. That Creators ways are better than his own funny ways, and that Creators Universal Consciousness is better than the little physical consciousness/intellect that men have in their primate like bodies. As can be seen at this time (2013), mankind is fast separating into two groups, the wheat and the chaff, the good and the bad, the loving and the hateful, the unselfish and the selfish, and most people gravitate towards one or the other. Where are you going? Like-minded people are now separating more and more from the opposite group to be among those of similar persuasion. If you don’t actively join in the cause of light, you are aiding the darkness, whether deliberately or not, whether you think so or not. Some people are becoming more and more kind and loving toward each other. Some are becoming more and more selfish, greedy and power hungry, showing very little love toward others. What do you think you are becoming? Your choices determine what you become, not your religion, not your religious belief or faith or intellectual reasoning; only your free will. Please use your free will with great humility and compassion to uplift your brothers and sisters, and to the glory of The Creator. Do not confuse this with what is mostly understood as religious dogma or theology, this is not.
Surrender to the universal one. Get back to Universal Consciousness any way you can, as quickly as you can. Time and times and half-time is at an end. At present we only live with a special and short-term dispensation. Selfishness is what must be crucified. Selfishness is what must die, and soon. Unless that is dead, you cannot be born again with Universal Consciousness.
All those who do not work for the light (toward universal consciousness) are, to varying degrees, pawns of darkness. You can meditate, you can pray, you can worship, you can do yoga, and you can go to church or the gym and look at the primate like ape in the mirror all day long. You can snort coke or smoke weeds or whatever. It is all a waste of time, it doesn’t help you become enlightened.  You should be kind, loving, caring and a harmless person. Just start by being really nice, kind and loving all the time to everybody. All human nature has one thing in common; they only operate at full potential when their concerns are directed away from self-preoccupation and towards the assistance of their less fortunate brothers.
From the other side with love,

Biophotons: The Human Body Emits, Communicates with, and is Made from Light

June 27, 2013 | By  1 Reply
Increasingly science agrees with the poetry of direct human experience:  we are more than the atoms and molecules that make up our bodies, but beings of light as well. Biophotons are emitted by the human body, can be released through mental intention, and may modulate fundamental processes within cell-to-cell communication and DNA.
Nothing is more amazing than the highly improbable fact that we exist. We often ignore this fact, oblivious to the reality that instead of something there could be nothing at all, i.e. why is there a universe (poignantly aware of itself through us) and not some void completely unconscious of itself?
Consider that from light, air, water, basic minerals within the crust of the earth, and the at least 3 billion year old information contained within the nucleus of one diploid zygote cell, the human body is formed, and within that body a soul capable of at least trying to comprehend its bodily and spiritual origins.
Given the sheer insanity of our existential condition, and bodily incarnation as a whole, and considering that our earthly existence is partially formed from sunlight and requires the continual consumption of condensed sunlight in the form of food, it may not sound so farfetched that our body emits light.
Indeed, the human body emits biophotons, also known as ultraweak photon emissions (UPE), with a visibility 1,000 times lower than the sensitivity of our naked eye. While not visible to us, these particles of light (or waves, depending on how you are measuring them) are part of the visible electromagnetic spectrum (380-780 nm) and are detectable via sophisticated modern instrumentation.[1],[2]

The Physical and “Mental” Eye Emits Light

The eye itself, which is continually exposed to ambient powerful photons that pass through various ocular tissues, emit spontaneous and visible light-induced ultraweak photon emissions.[3] It has even been hypothesized that visible light induces delayed bioluminescence within the exposed eye tissue, providing an explanation for the origin of the negative afterimage.[4]
These light emissions have also been correlated with cerebral energy metabolism and oxidative stress within the mammalian brain.[5] [6] And yet, biophoton emissions are not necessarily epiphenomenal.  Bókkon’s hypothesis suggests that photons released from chemical processes within the brain produce biophysical pictures during visual imagery, and a recent study found that when subjects actively imagined light in a very dark environment their intention produced significant increases in ultraweak photo emissions.[7]  This is consistent with an emerging view that biophotons are not solely cellular metabolic by-products, but rather, because biophoton intensity can be considerably higher inside cells than outside, it is possible for the mind to access this energy gradient to create intrinsic biophysical pictures during visual perception and imagery.[8]

Our Cells and DNA Use Biophotons To Store and Communicate Information

Apparently biophotons are used by the cells of many living organisms to communicate, which facilitates energy/information transfer that is several orders of magnitude faster than chemical diffusion. According to a 2010 study, “Cell to cell communication by biophotons have been demonstrated in plants, bacteria, animal neutriophil granulocytes and kidney cells.”[9] Researchers were able to demonstrate that “…different spectral light stimulation (infrared, red, yellow, blue, green and white) at one end of the spinal sensory or motor nerve roots resulted in a significant increase in the biophotonic activity at the other end.” Researchers interpreted their finding to suggest that “…light stimulation can generate biophotons that conduct along the neural fibers, probably as neural communication signals.”
Even when we go down to the molecular level of our genome, DNA can be identified to be a source of biophoton emissions as well. One author proposes that DNA is so biophoton dependent that is has excimer laser-like properties, enabling it to exist in a stable state far from thermal equilibrium at threshold.[10]
Technically speaking a biophoton is an elementary particle or quantum of light of non-thermal origin in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum emitted from a biological system.   They are generally believed to be produced as a result of energy metabolism within our cells, or more formally as a “…by-product of biochemical reactions in which excited molecules are produced from bioenergetic processes that involves active oxygen species,”  [11]

The Body’s Circadian Biophoton Output

Because the metabolism of the body changes in a circadian fashion, biophoton emissions also variate along the axis of diurnal time. [12]  Research has mapped out distinct anatomical locations within the body where biophoton emissions are stronger and weaker, depending on the time of the day:
Generally, the fluctuation in photon counts over the body was lower in the morning than in the afternoon. The thorax-abdomen region emitted lowest and most constantly. The upper extremities and the head region emitted most and increasingly over the day. Spectral analysis of low, intermediate and high emission from the superior frontal part of the right leg, the forehead and the palms in the sensitivity range of the photomultiplier showed the major spontaneous emission at 470-570 nm. The central palm area of hand emission showed a larger contribution of the 420-470 nm range in the spectrum of spontaneous emission from the hand in autumn/winter. The spectrum of delayed luminescence from the hand showed major emission in the same range as spontaneous emission.
The researchers concluded that, “The spectral data suggest that measurements might well provide quantitative data on the individual pattern of peroxidative and anti-oxidative processes in vivo.”

Meditation and Herbs Affect Biophoton Output

Research has found an oxidative stress-mediated difference in biophoton emission among mediators versus non-meditators. Those who meditate regularly tend to have lower ultra-weak photon emission (UPE, biophoton emission), which is believed to result from the lower level of free radical reactions occurring in their bodies. In one clinical study involving practitioners of transcendental meditation (TM) researchers found:
The lowest UPE intensities were observed in two subjects who regularly meditate. Spectral analysis of human UPE has suggested that ultra-weak emission is probably, at least in part, a reflection of free radical reactions in a living system. It has been documented that various physiologic and biochemical shifts follow the long-term practice of meditation and it is inferred that meditation may impact free radical activity.[13]
Interestingly, an herb well-known for its use in stress reduction (including inducing measurable declines in cortisol), and associated heightened oxidative stress, has been tested clinically in reducing the level of biophotons emitted in human subjects. Known as rhodiola, a study published in 2009 in the journal Phytotherapeutic Research found that those who took the herb for 1 week has a significant decrease in photon emission in comparison with the placebo group.[14]

Human Skin May Capture Energy and Information from Sunlight

Perhaps most extraordinary of all is the possibility that our bodily surface contains cells capable of efficiently trapping the energy and information from ultraviolet radiation. A study published in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology in 1993, titled, “Artificial sunlight irradiation induces ultraweak photon emission in human skin fibroblasts,” discovered that when light from an artificial sunlight source was applied to fibroblasts from either normal subjects or with the condition xeroderma pigmentosum, characterized by deficient DNA repair mechanisms, it induced far higher emissions of ultraweak photons (10-20 times) in the xeroderma pigmentosum group.  The researchers concluded from this experiment that “These data suggest that xeroderma pigmentosum cells tend to lose the capacity of efficient storage of ultraweak photons, indicating the existence of an efficient intracellular photon trapping system within human cells.[15]  More recent research has also identified measurable differences in biophoton emission between normal and melanoma cells.[16]
In a previous article, Does Skin Pigment Act Like A Natural Solar-Panel, we explored the role of melanin in converting ultraviolet light into metabolic energy:
Melanin is capable of transforming ultraviolet light energy into heat in a process known as “ultrafast internal conversion”; more than 99.9% of the absorbed UV radiation is transformed from potentially genotoxic (DNA-damaging) ultraviolet light into harmless heat.
If melanin can convert light into heat, could it not also transform UV radiation into other biologically/metabolically useful forms of energy? This may not seem so farfetched when one considers that even gamma radiation, which is highly toxic to most forms of life, is a source of sustenance for certain types of fungi and bacteria.

The Body’s Biophoton Outputs Are Governed by Solar and Lunar Forces

It appears that modern science is only now coming to recognize the ability of the human body to receive and emit energy and information directly from the light given off from the Sun. [17]
There is also a growing realization that the Sun and Moon affect biophoton emissions through gravitational influences.  Recently, biophoton emissions from wheat seedlings in Germany and Brazil were found to be synchronized transcontinentally according to rhythms associated with the lunisolar tide.[18]  In fact, the lunisolar tidal force, to which the Sun contributes 30 % and the Moon 60 % of the combined gravitational acceleration, has been found to regulate a number of features of plant growth upon Earth.[19]

Intention Is a Living Force of Physiology

Even human intention itself, the so-called ghost in the machine, may have an empirical basis in biophotons.
A recent commentary published in the journal Investigacion clinica titled “Evidence about the power of intention” addressed this connection:
Intention is defined as a directed thought to perform a determined action. Thoughts targeted to an end can affect inanimate objects and practically all living things from unicellular organisms to human beings. The emission of light particles (biophotons) seems to be the mechanism through which an intention produces its effects. All living organisms emit a constant current of photons as a mean to direct instantaneous nonlocal signals from one part of the body to another and to the outside world. Biophotons are stored in the intracellular DNA. When the organism is sick changes in biophotons emissions are produced. Direct intention manifests itself as an electric and magnetic energy producing an ordered flux of photons. Our intentions seem to operate as highly coherent frequencies capable of changing the molecular structure of matter. For the intention to be effective it is necessary to choose the appropriate time. In fact, living beings are mutually synchronized and to the earth and its constant changes of magnetic energy. It has been shown that the energy of thought can also alter the environment. Hypnosis, stigmata phenomena and the placebo effect can also be considered as types of intention, as instructions to the brain during a particular state of consciousness. Cases of spontaneous cures or of remote healing of extremely ill patients represent instances of an exceedingly great intention to control diseases menacing our lives. The intention to heal as well as the beliefs of the sick person on the efficacy of the healing influences promote his healing. In conclusion, studies on thought and consciousness are emerging as fundamental aspects and not as mere epiphenomena that are rapidly leading to a profound change in the paradigms of Biology and Medicine.
So there you have it. Science increasingly agrees with direct human experience: we are more than the atoms and molecules of which we are composed, but beings that emit, communicate with, and are formed from light.

ADHD a ‘Fictitious Disease’ Says the Creator of the Ailment

June 29, 2013 | By  1 Reply
Did you know that The American Psychiatric Association estimates that 3%-7% of school-aged children have ADHD, while parents report that about 9.5% of children between 9- and 7 years old suffer from the condition? Although these statistics are alarming, they aren’t as shocking as the fact that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a completely made-up ailment, according to the “father” of ADHD, Leon Eisenberg, who made the shocking admission in the last interview before his death.
A psychiatrist and key player in the developmental research behind autism, ADHD, and psychiatry as a whole, Leon Eisenberg concocted the theory of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder decades ago. The disease first haunted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as hyperkinetic reaction of childhood, but is now labeled as ADHD. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Eisenberg’s theory on ADHD to become ‘concrete’ within the medical community, leading tens of millions of children to be heavily medicated with mind-altering drugs for virtually no justifiable reason.
There is no question that the psychiatric community and their bible-like text known as the DSM are fueling disease and widespread medication prescriptions. In a world where creativity is deemed a “mental illness” by scientists and profits are to be made by shrinks and pharmaceutical companies, is it any wonder that a large portion of the population is on medications for some type of ‘mental illness’?
“ADHD is fraud intended to justify starting children on a life of drug addiction,” said Dr. Edward C. Hamlyn, a founding member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, back in 1998 about the phony condition.
Thanks to Eisenberg and the rest of the psychiatric community (including big pharma), approximately, 24,357,000 ADHD medications were prescribed and refilled to children and teens in 2009. In fact, there is a frightening new trend where children from low-income families are prescribed ADHD meds to boost their academic performance. That’s right, kids that aren’t even suspected of ‘having’ the phony attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The amount of children being fed ADHD medications has risen so high over the years that pharmacies are actually struggling  to obtain enough of the active ingredient used in the drug to ‘treat’ the ‘disease’, Adderall.
Though Eisenberg admitted that ADHD was merely a theory on his death bed, it didn’t stop him and his colleagues from raking in the profits of unknowing parents and children. Which reminds us of something: it’s all about the money. Where there is no drug to profit from, create a new drug, and where there is no disease to profit from, simply create a new disease. It’s hardly surprising to hear that an astonishing 70% of the panel members of the DSM-5 reported having financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies. About 57% reported ties in the previous edition.
Don’t fall for the pill scare. Countless parents have discovered that ‘treating’ an ADHD-riddled child is as easy as altering the junk-food diet he/she has had for years. In addition to implementing dietary changes, there are also other powerful natural remedies for ADHD that any parent can utilize.

More and more police officers are realizing the War on Drugs is a mistake

Five Reasons Cops Want to Legalize Marijuana

Most people don't think "cops" when they think about who supports marijuana legalization. Police are, after all, the ones cuffing stoners, and law enforcement groups have a long history of lobbying against marijuana policy reform. Many see this as a major factor in preventing the federal government from recognizing that a historic majority of Americans – 52 percent –  favors legalizing weed.
But the landscape is changing fast. Today, a growing number of cops are part of America's "marijuana majority." Members of the non-profit group Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) say that loosening our pot policy wouldn't necessarily condone drug use, but control it, while helping cops to achieve their ultimate goal of increasing public safety. Here are the five biggest reasons why even cops are starting to say, "Legalize It!"
1. It's about public safety.
While marijuana is a relatively harmless drug, the black market associated with it can cause significant harm. Much like the prohibition of alcohol, marijuana's illegality does not erase the profit incentive – instead, it establishes a risky, unregulated market in which violence and intimidation are used to settle disputes.
"When we ended the prohibition of alcohol, Al Capone was out of work the next day," says Stephen Downing, Los Angeles' former Deputy Chief of Police. "Our drug policy is really anti-public safety and pro-cartel, pro-street gang, because it keeps them in business."
Marijuana trafficking represents a significant chunk of business for black-market cartels. Though the exact percentage of cartel profits from pot is disputed, lowball estimates fall at around 20 percent.
"During my time on the border, I saw literally tons of marijuana come over the border from Mexico," says Jamie Haase, a former special agent in the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement division. "Competition over the profits to be made from this illicit industry has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of individuals in that country, and an ever-increasing amount of violence spilling over into the United States, where the Justice Department estimates Mexican cartels now operate in more than 1,000 American cities."
2. Cops want to focus on crimes that hurt real victims.
In the past decade, police made more than 7 million marijuana arrests, 88 percent of them for possession alone. In 2010, states spent $3.6 billion enforcing the war on pot, with blacks nearly four times as likely as whites to be arrested. That's a lot of police time and resources wasted, says former Seattle Chief of Police Norm Stamper, who had an "aha moment" about marijuana policy while working for the San Diego Police Department in the late 1960s.
"I had arrested a 19-year-old in his parents' home for the possession of a very small quantity of marijuana, and put him in the backseat of a caged police car, after having kicked down his door," recalls Stamper. While driving the prisoner to jail, he says, "I realized, mainly, that I could have been doing real police work, but instead I'm going to be out of service for several hours impounding the weed, impounding him, and writing arrest, impound, and narcotics reports. I was away from the people I had been hired to serve and in no position to stop a reckless drunk driver swerving all over the road, or to respond to a burglary in progress, or intervene in domestic violence situation."
Cops have limited resources, and spending them on marijuana arrests will inevitably divert them from other policing. Adds Stamper, "In short, making a marijuana arrest for a simple possession case was no longer, for me, real police work."
3. Cops want strong relationships with the communities they serve.
Baltimore narcotics veteran Neil Franklin says the prevalence of marijuana arrests, especially among communities of color, creates a "hostile environment" between police and the communities they serve. "Marijuana is the number one reason right now that police use to search people in this country," he says. "The odor of marijuana alone gives a police officers probable cause to search you, your person, your car, or your home."
Legalizing pot, says Franklin, could lead to "hundreds of thousands of fewer negative police and citizen contacts across this country. That's a hell of an opportunity for law enforcement to rebuild some bridges in our communities – mainly our poor, black and Latino communities."
Franklin adds that this would increase citizens' trust in police, making them more likely to communicate and help solve more serious crimes. Building mutual respect would also protect cops on the job. Adds Franklin, "Too many police officers are killed or injured serving the War on Drugs as opposed to protecting and serving their communities."
4. The war on pot encourages bad – and even illegal – police practices.
Downing says that monetary incentives for drug arrests, like asset forfeiture and federal grants, encourage an attitude where police will make drug arrests by any means necessary, from militarized SWAT raids to paid informants who admit to lying. "The overall effect is that we are losing ground in terms of the traditional peace officer role of protecting public safety, and morphing our local police officers into federal drug warriors," Downing says.
Quotas and pressure for officers to make drug arrests – which profit police departments via federal funding and asset forfeiture – also encourage routine violations of the Fourth Amendment ban on unreasonable searches and seizures. The NYPD, for example, stops and sometimes frisks well over 500,000 people a year, the vast majority of them youths of color – the basis for a pending federal lawsuit challenging the policy on constitutional grounds. While New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has defended stop-and-frisk as a way to get guns off the street, in fact, it's more often used to arrest kids with small amounts of weed. Stamper adds that legalization would allow police officers "to see young adults not as criminals, but members of their community" – and start respecting those young people's civil liberties.
5. Cops want to stop kids from abusing drugs.
Marijuana's illegality has done very little to stop its use. A recent survey by the National Institutes of Health found that 36 percent of high school seniors had smoked marijuana in the past year.  Legalization would most likely involve age restrictions on marijuana purchases, while at the same time providing quality control over product. "The only way we can effectively control drugs is to create a regulatory system for all of them," says Stamper.
"If you are truly a proponent of public safety, if you truly want safer communities, then it's a no-brainer that we have to end drug prohibition and treat [marijuana] as a health issue, like we did with tobacco," says Franklin. "Education and treatment is the most effective and cost-efficient way to reduce drug use."
On the other hand, adds Franklin, "If you support a current system of drug prohibition, then you support the very same thing that the cartel and neighborhood gangs support. You might as well be standing next to them, shaking hands.  Because they don't want an end to prohibition, either."
